Challenge
The director of a software company department that included three different groups wanted her team to see themselves as separate but related sub-teams unified toward one common greater mission.
Solution
- Facilitated team self-assessment using Lominger’s Team Architect® to help the three sub-teams assess their strengths and weaknesses in light of the overall mission and goals.
- Led development planning exercise to help sub-teams set one team development goal for the year.
- Encouraged managers and employees to explore how they could develop as individuals to support the achievement of sub-team goals.
- Coached sub-teams to ensure progress on goals throughout the year, and followed up with director to assess overall team performance improvements.
Results
- Post-session evaluations and subsequent feedback revealed that sub-teams felt more united within themselves and the overall team immediately after the session and several months later.
- Director and her managers reported overall productivity and process improvements, as well as an increase in team morale.
